"The Time Has Come," the Walrus Said, "To Talk of Many Things..."

Elvis has left the building, and so have the B-G’s. You may have heard snippets of rumors floating around lately. The rumors are true. Bob and I have left the Quarter. It was time. Nothing is what it used to be, and we wanted a new perspective.

On April 7th, we got into the car and drove to Rampart where we headed south. Rampart veered into St Claude and we continued on to Arabi, Chalmette, and when St Claude gave way to the St Bernard Highway, we kept on driving past Meraux until we reached that “census-designated place in St. Bernard Parish” (in the words of Wikipedia), Violet, LA. We are Violations now, and doggoned proud of it.

We found a sturdy little bungalow out here on the first street in town. Real estate agents call these place “starter homes.” We call them “enders.”

We are half-a-block from the St Bernard Highway right at the beginning of Docville Farm. Behind our little back yard is a cow pasture. With cows. Real ones. Across the road a little ways is the Mississippi. The proximity brings me comfort.

I see new adventures and rest and some joy.

  1. How exciting, congratulations to you both!! And the location sounds perfect, you'll be hearing the ship horns and seeing the tops of the ships as they pass by the levee. I look forward to posts about your new home!!

  2. Thank you! I’m loving it. Bobby and I fight and yell at each other about decorating all day long, but it all ends fast, and we keep on laughing! So far...

  4. Big congrats and good luck on your new adventure. When I look about here in NOLA, your words "Nothing is what it used to be" reverberate. Anyway it's been way too long and hope to see you again once the pandemic has come to pass.

  5. That's fantastic!!! I don't think I've ever been to Violet but we went several times to Chalmette by the battlefield and national cemetery. There's that Waffle House in Arabi that has an egg sandwich ... now I make the egg sandwiches at home. Have a wonderful time in your new place!
